RWANDA
Lush and undulating landscapes of glorious green epitomise this beautifully wild and natural corner of Africa.
Referred to as ‘Le Pays de Mille Collines’ or ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’, Rwanda’s landlocked bamboo forests are home to the world’s last remaining mountain gorilla. A thrilling hike through Volcanoes National Park is perhaps the best opportunity to spot these elusive and majestic creatures in their natural environment. This will reward you with a plethora of other stunning flora and fauna too, from chimpanzees and monkeys to spectacular birds and rare orchids.
The serene beaches of Lake Kivu offer the perfect opportunity to unwind, while over on the eastern side of the country, Akagera National Park is home to mighty hippo, majestic elephant and skulking crocodile.
Rwanda is ingrained in the memories of many for the horrific events of 1994. Today, it is a country reinvented - looking towards a brighter and more peaceful future and keen to welcome visitors with open arms.
